There are a lot of new faces in church.
Make sure you make them feel welcome and invite them back.
If you see someone sitting alone in church, ask them if it would be all right for you to sit next to them. Be aware that some of our parishioners prefer to worship by themselves, but asking them might be an opportunity to make a new friend.
If you miss someone who regularly comes to church, give them a call or send them a card or text and just say something caring to show them they were missed. Folks miss services for all kinds of reasons, but most of them like to know they are important enough to be missed.
LOST or LEFT. Many times church members bring materials to the church or Fellowship hall for events. After the event the material winds up being left. We ask that if you bring it, take it home after the event. If you need assistance, the Property group or the Fellowship group will be glad to help you. Please don’t leave items without arrangements for their storage or removal. Thanks for your help with this.
Birthday, Anniversary and email lists are fluid and easily become out of date. If you have not already done so, and would like to have your birthday or anniversary listed or updated in the newsletter and your contact information listed in the Annual Directory, please notify the church office

Each year, Christ the Servant Lutheran Church has two (2) programs beginning in September when members are asked to prayerfully consider all that God has given us, and decide what portion of these gifts we will dedicate to His work both spiritually and financially.
EVERY MEMBER RESPONSE — Each of us will be able to complete an estimate of giving card indicating how you will serve the Lord financially in 2016. All the giving cards together will make the task of forming our budget for the upcoming year. Your information remains private.
Throughout the year, our Church needs every member to give of his/her treasures to the best of our ability to be successful in our mission to Love Christ, Love our neighbors and Make disciples.
Matthew 5:14-16 reminds us of the teaching of Christ: “You are the light of the world. …it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
TIME & TALENT — Each of us will have the opportunity to complete a Time & Talent form indicating how we will serve the Lord spiritually and in person in 2016.
COUNCIL MEMBERS – At our Annual meeting in November, the following members were elected to Council for 2017: Chuck Smith, John Garbett (2nd term), Bob Whitlatch, George Lotterer, Vince Niemetz, Dick Shingledecker (appointed). Chip Booker and Rich Schneider. They will be joining Gayne Wray, Shirley Dresch, Bob Greaker and John Lesnansky who are entering the second year of their election to Council. This is the 2017 Council.
We offer our heartfelt thanks to Annette Krapf, Chris Dusterhoft, Dianne Siee, John Garbett, Leroy Alford and Ruth DelVecchio who have diligently already served two years on Council.
OUR MINISTRIES. Our church is much more than Sunday services. Our church is our congregation and requires participation to function and flourish. And we would like you to be involved. Everyone is busy with the obligations in their lives, but volunteering for a group within the church is not like taking on a job. There are no bosses and everyone is friendly.
Attending a meeting of a group where you don’t know anyone is a scary thing, but Pastor Rick attends most meetings and he or any Council member will be happy to explain what the Ministry accomplishes and to introduce you to your new friends.
Please feel free to try out our various ministries. There is no problem if the Lord is calling you to a different group. He will lead you where your talents lie.

PROPERTY COMMITTEE works to keep our church property safe and attractive. Recently, the lighting around our campus was significantly enhanced, giving a safer experience for our members leaning the church at night. The church sign is now more visible from Highway 501. Additionally, rain gutters all around the church building were replaced to improve our property.

CHURCHES ASSISTING PEOPLE (CAP) reports that their pantry assists 50+ families every day and is constantly in need of replenishment. There are some items that CAP really needs. A most wanted list of these items can be found on the table in the narthex. Some items in need are one pound bags of rice, dried beans (lima and pinto), cereal, peanut butter, jelly, instant oatmeal and grits packets, bath soap, and toilet paper. Please check the package dates to be sure the items are not outdated. They would appreciate non-perishable food donations of all kinds. Place items any time in the CAP box in the church foyer.
Monetary gifts are also needed and can be put in the large CAP jar in the narthex. The need is great. Thank you for your generosity and help.

SHEPHERD’S TABLE SERVING OPPORTUNITIES — Every month Shepherd’s Table needs servers. Serving dates will be posted in the narthex for the following month. This gives members from all services the opportunity to offer their assistance.
The Shepherd’s Table is looking for groups to decorate their dinner tables one month per year. If you are interested please speak with Jeanne Shaffer or Bonnie Batina. Sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board.
Members of the Social Ministry team will be decorating the tables at the Shepherd’s Table for the month of November 2017. If you can help with this fun volunteer project, there is a signup sheet posted on the bulletin board.

MORTGAGE REDUCTION – At our Annual meeting, we agreed that an additional $2 per week directed toward Debt Reduction would allow us to completely eliminate our mortgage and fully own our church in less than ten years. Additionally, a total of $1,050 was recently received by Thrivent members who donated their Choice dollars to our Debt reduction fund.
By an email vote by all Council members, the Council voted unanimously to refinance our mortgage at a rate reduction from 6.25 percent to 3.25 percent. The term will be only one year less and will save us about $29,000 in payoff costs.
Our mortgage balance after the April payment now roughly $306,000.
How are we doing? Our original loan maturity date was Jan 2033. Over the last several months we have reduced our payoff date by 38 months, that is more than three years taken off our loan. This is more than $105,000 that we will not have to pay in mortgage payments. Keep up the great work!! If you have any questions, give Chuck Smith a call.
HEARTLAND HOSPICE is seeking individuals 18 and older to provide volunteer services in your neighborhoods. Services include providing relief and support to the caregiver of a patient, friendly visits to brighten a patient’s day, bedside vigils for patients in their final hours, playing or singing soothing music to patients, reading aloud or providing a comforting touch and running errands for patients and families.
